A rough stone shaped smooth .Kalidas

Kalidas is considered to be one of the greatest Indian literary personalities of all time, and his work form the cornerstone of Indian mythology. Little is known about his personal life, but legends abound. He is known to be familiar with Greek Astronomy, and has used a few Greek terms in his work. According to one such popular legend, Kalidas wasn't always so wise and learned. In fact, there was a time he was considered to be one of the stupidest people in the kingdom!
One sunny day, Kalidas was sitting on a branch of a tree, trying to saw it off. But the dimwitted man was sitting on the wrong end of the branch, so when he finally sawed through the branch, down he tumbled! This act of sheer stupidity was observed by some shrewd pundits minister passing by.
Now these pundits wanted to play a trick on the arrogant princess, to teach her a lesson. She was determined to marry someone who would defeat her in a debate about the scriptures. The princess had heaped considerable abuse on them over a period of time, and they were determined to extract their revenge. So, when they chanced upon Kalidas, they decided to present him to the queen as a suitable match for her.
In order to conceal his stupidity, the pundits asked Kalidas to pretend that he was a great sage, who was observing a vow of silence. Kalidas readily agreed, and they presented him to the queen, saying that Kalidas would only communicate by way of gestures. When the queen asked Kalidas a few questions to test his intelligence, Kalidas gesticulated wildly and the astute pundits 'interpreted' these gestures as extremely witty answers and retorts. The princess was suitably impressed, and the couple was married without much delay.
Kalidas's stupidity could be concealed for only so long, and the night of the wedding Kalidas blurted out something inane. The princess realized that she had married a prize fool. Furious, she threw him out of her palace, and her life.
The dejected Kalidas wandered around, till he came to the bank of the river. He contemplated taking his life when he suddenly saw some women washing clothes on the edge of the river bank. He observed that the stones which the women were pounding with clothes, were smooth and rounded, while the other stones were rough and ragged. This observation hit him like a thunderbolt, and it dawned upon him that if stones could be worn through and change their shape by being pounded upon by clothes, then why couldn't his thick brains change, by being pounded upon by knowledge!
Kalidas thus grew determined to become the wisest and most learned man in the country, and to achieve this end he started indulging in intellectual pastimes, reading, meditating and praying to his goddess Kali to grant him divine knowledge. His wish was fulfilled.
Kalidas's contribution to Indian literature is tremendous. Though his writings were in Sanskrit, they have been translated into numerous languages. While numerous writings have been attributed to him, only seven works are proved to be genuinely his.
  1. Malavikaagnimitra (Malavikaa and Agnimitra)
  2. Vikramorvashiiya (The story of Urvashi and Pururavas)
  3. Abhigyanashakuntala (Shakuntala)
Of these plays, Kalidas is best known for the play Shakuntala, which has gone on to receive worldwide attention.

Subh Labh........

Today one of my friend ask me a question should it be Shubh Labh or Labh Shubh that people write with kumkum at there worship place.and my answer was Shubh & Laabh : These are 2 words that are firmly embedded in the psyche of every Indian. Every household & business establishment has these 2 words along with the Swastika & the images of Goddess Lakshmi & Lord Ganesha on either sides.

Shubh Labh is an inscription one sees in many business places (or at entrances to traditional business places) in India. It is written in devnagri script on either side of a swastika  with KumKum. Literally translated it means, auspicious profit and is generally denoted by a Swastik which is pointed towards right.

I am not sure where this term started from (do let me know in case you are aware) and I am also not sure how this term escaped the attention of them socialists how can profit be auspicious, after all we are socialists during our heady days of socialism.

The Marwaris  and many others have something called a Bahi Khata pooja which is basically a day on Diwali /Laxmi Pooja where the ledgers and records are worshipped. When something is worshipped, the underlying meaning is that it is good, ethical. Which is why, for many businessmen, being fair in business is a big thing. The connection with spirituality and worship is a way of "corporate governance", though the meaning of it has been largely diluted today and shubh labh is now more about labh than about shubh.

INDIA and RTE The ray of hope.

The right to education has been universally recognised since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 (though referred to by the ILO as early as the 1920s) and has since been enshrined in various international conventions, national constitutions and development plans. However, while the vast majority of countries havesigned up to, and ratified, international conventions(such as the UN Convention on the Rights of theChild) far fewer have integrated these rights into their national constitutions or provided the legislativeand administrative frameworks to ensure that theserights are realised in practice.

Every child in the age group of 6-14 years will be provided 8 years of elementary education in an age appropriate classroom in the vicinity of his/her neighbourhood.RTE has been a part of the directive principles of the State Policy under Article 45 of the Constitution, which is part of Chapter 4 of the Constitution. And rights in Chapter 4 are not enforceable. For the first time in the history of India we have made this right enforceable by putting it in Chapter 3 of the Constitution as Article 21. This entitles children to have the right to education enforced as a fundamental right.
Any cost that prevents a child from accessing school will be borne by the State which shall have the responsibility of enrolling the child as well as ensuring attendance and completion of 8 years of schooling. No child shall be denied admission for want of documents; no child shall be turned away if the admission cycle in the school is over and no child shall be asked to take an admission test. Children with disabilities will also be educated in the mainstream schools. All schools will have to prescribe to norms and standards laid out in the Act and no school that does not fulfill these standards within 3 years will be allowed to function. All private schools will have to apply for recognition, failing which they will be penalized to the tune of Rs 1 lakh and if they still continue to function will be liable to pay Rs 10,000 per day as fine. Norms and standards of teacher qualification and training are also being laid down by an Academic Authority. Teachers in all schools will have to subscribe to these norms within 5 years.
Still lot of hurdles like financial the implementation of the act fall short with funds of 7000 crores in the very first year. The dearth of good and qualified teachers is another concern as according to HRD ministry we are short of five lakh teachers,Infrastructure is always been a problem for education ,there will be a big challenge to bring child labourers to school. This Act has put India in the same league as U.S.A. and 130 other Nations as far as the right to education is concerned. Nothing can change overnight but there is a ray of hope. A hope that if all these hurdles and shortcomings are overcome and the loopholes removed, then this will become the road leading towards an Educated India, a Proud India.

prospect of life

A person should always think about prospects of all his actions.
Community where we live want dependability on each other.whenever we leave prospects behind ,a negative interaction in life starts. In our day to day life too we should be balanced and think with a positive prospect.
We normally see when ever anyone ask for some favour we replay "not now"....tomorrow".....I am busy now ".....and so on...Just to avoid .
Once a person reaches home from office late night at 1:00 AM. the wife gets angrier but tells you are too late today i am waiting since long ,now first we'll have  dinner.
The replay was "I am too busy that i don't have time to die either and you are asking for food.    lady angrily said" I am busy too wait before you die as I don't have time to cry for you right now.
Whenever we think of others prospect there wont be any place for anger .In a society where we live we should  think about others also .
when someone ignore others prospect in life the life tend to become miserable So the balance of life is in Good Prospect.

Chai

Masala chai (literally "spiced tea") is a beverage from the Indian subcontinent made by brewing tea with a mixture of aromatic Indian spices and herbs.

A tea's type is determined by the processing which it undergoes. Leaves of Camellia sinensis soon begin to wilt and oxidize, if not dried quickly after picking. The leaves turn progressively darker as their chlorophyll breaks down and tannins are released. This process, enzymatic oxidation, is called fermentation in the tea industry. Fermentation can be either aerobic or anaerobic, and is sometimes mistakenly believed to necessitate the involvement of bacteria. In fact, fermenting agents can be yeast, bacteria, or even only enzymatic (such as your muscles under heavy exercise). Most of the darkening of tea is believed to be because of enzymatic oxidationWithout careful moisture and temperature control during manufacture and packaging, the tea will grow fungi.

Tea is traditionally classified based on the techniques with which it is produced and processed.
  • White tea: Wilted and unoxidized
  • Yellow tea: Unwilted and unoxidized, but allowed to yellow
  • Green tea: Unwilted and unoxidized
  • Oolong: Wilted, bruised, and partially oxidized
  • Black tea: Wilted, sometimes crushed, and fully oxidized
  •  Post-fermented tea: Green tea that has been allowed to ferment/compost                                                                                                        Tea plants are native to East and South Asia and probably originated around the point of confluence of the lands of northeast India, north Burma, southwest China, and Tibet. Although tales exist in regards to the beginnings of tea being used as a beverage, no one is sure of its exact origins. The usage of tea as a beverage was first recorded in China, with the earliest records of tea consumption with records dating back to the 10th century BC. It was already a common drink during Qin Dynasty (around 200 BC) and became widely popular during Tang Dynasty, when it was spread to Korea and Japan. Trade of tea by the Chinese to Western nations in the 19th century spread tea and the tea plant to numerous locations around the world.

The Booze

Beer is becoming way of life .People are thriving to buy alcohol and beer at any time and at any cost. They want an occasion to booze in public and god is very cautious in giving such occasions recently from Holi to world cup win.

Today's news says a 120 percent of whooping increase in liquor sale is seen in Tamil Nadu due to elections. There are 303 TN State Marketing Corporation owned liquor shops in the district, including 114 within corporation limits, 51 in municipalities, 76 in town panchayats and 62 in village Panchayats. As per statistics, residents have consumed as many as 3, 87, 065 bottles in March alone. "We had fixed the sales target to 2, 57,763 bottles for March, but it has crossed the estimated figures. During the first week of April, all outlets witnessed brisk business.

Even on the world cup win mumbai alone witnessed An estimated 70,000 litres of liquor were gulped down, with 60% of it being beer. Booze trade sources said the city may set its own record the day India plays against Sri Lanka in the final at the Wankhede stadium.
Even local paper says 2600 liquor shops are there in rajasthan and the government has got 132 inspectors to keep a check on them whereas 35000 ration shops are there in state and 253 inspectors are there to check them and many ration inspectors are yet to posted.

So the crisp talk here is are we more getting use to wild partying or shall we behave and work for social upliftment ?
