Cloned ?

Imagine for a moment that your daughter needs a bone-marrow transplant and no one can provide a match; that your wife's early menopause has made her infertile; or that your five-year-old has drowned in a lake and your grief has made it impossible to get your mind around the fact that he is gone forever. Our two-year-old daughter died in a car crash; we saved a lock of her hair in a baby book. Can you clone her? Why does the law allow people more freedom to destroy fetuses than to create them?

The inquiries are pouring in because some scientists are ever more willing to say yes, perhaps we can. A well-known infertility specialist, Panayiotis Zavos of the University of Kentucky, announced that he and Italian researcher Severino Antinori, the man who almost seven years ago helped a 62-year-old woman give birth using donor eggs, were forming a consortium to produce the first human clone. Researchers in South Korea claim they have already created a cloned human embryo, though they destroyed it rather than implanting it in a surrogate mother to develop.
When it finally happened -- after years of ethical hand wringing and science- fiction fantasy -- it was done in such a low-key way by researchers so quiet and self-effacing that the world nearly missed it. The landmark experiment was reported by Jerry Hall at a meeting of the American Fertility Society in Montreal. Also, The efforts of the Raelians, a religious group committed to, among other things, welcoming the first extraterrestrials when they appear. They intend to clone the cells of a dead 10-month-old boy whose devastated parents hope, in effect, to bring him back to life as a newborn. The Raelians say they have the lab and the scientists, and--most important, considering the amount of trial and error involved--they say they have 50 women lined up to act as surrogates to carry a cloned baby to term.

Given what researchers have learned since Dolly, no one thinks the mechanics of cloning are very hard: take a donor egg, suck out the nucleus, and hence the DNA, and fuse it with, say, a skin cell from the human being copied. Then, with the help of an electrical current, the reconstituted cell should begin growing into a genetic duplicate. It's inevitable that someone will try and someone will succeed," predicts Delores Lamb, an infertility expert at Baylor University. The consensus among biotechnology specialists is that within a few years--some scientists believe a few months--the news will break of the birth of the first human clone.

E-waste

E-waste includes discarded mobile phones, old batteries and CFL bulbs etc. If not disposed properly, they find their way to landfills leading to leakage of heavy metals and radio active substances that cause ground water contamination.The e-waste from households and small offices posing threats to the soil and health so Pollution Control should plan to involve rag-pickers and kabadiwallahs for their proper disposal.

The recycling activity is witnessing a shift and moving from largely unorganized approach to a more organized large scale corporate domain. The negative externalities caused from the hazardous nature of the material used in products makes it necessary to reclaim the waste and recycle components of the products to reduce the associated environmental contamination.
Home to 1,700 IT companies, Bangalore is fast becoming a dumping ground for electronic wastes generated by these firms. The city generates 8,000 tonnes of e-waste annually.
Businesses have to behave responsibly to maintain their brand images as well as reduce ecological burden of their operations. This not only reduces firm’s risks arising from future litigations but also saves on abatement costs. Finally, some of the materials have high economic costs of production produce but recycling can be an easy and cheaper option to reclaim the same product.

Dumping Companies should keep toxic materials out of landfills, groundwater and the air we breath.  Work with approved processors to help divert toxic e-waste from landfills while providing an economically viable means of recycling and recovering reusable materials. The Rainforest Initiative encourages and promotes globally accepted "best" practices for recycling e-waste as well as the guidelines set by ISO standards.

Diamond.............forever

                                                                            Imperial State Crown2.JPG
"Diamonds are" said to be "a girls best friend" .But for centuries ,these precious stones were actually a man thing, worn by Maharajas and princes .Many of these much rare form of carbon remain in a veil of mystry and legend. It was in the 13th century when the first diamond started to appear in Europe, although in India we had already long use in jewellery.Koh-i-Noor,or mountain of light gain possession in 1739 when Nadir Shah cheristen it.It is part of british crown jewel now.

The oldest diamond formed some 3.3 billion years ago at a depth of at least 150 kilometers below the earth's surface. Each year about 80 percent of the hardest substance known to man ,do not end up adorning necklace and earrings ,but find their way into precision drill bits , cutting tools, because, only thing that can scratch a diamond is another diamond .

A Diamonds value is determined by four C's: Carats , Color,Clarity and Cut .A highly prized stone should have as many carats as possible and be clear ,perfectly cut and free from inclusions.A diamond with these quality create the most dramatic effect when the light hits them.

The wars for diamond shown first in the movie "Blood Diamond"  hoped  to end with the Kimberly process ,established in 2003 after which 75 countries have indeed undertaken only to allow the sale of diamond if accompanied by certificate of origin .Nonetheless, the trade in "Blood Diamond" continues.

Why Akhilesh and not Rahul made it to the top in UP

             Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav

Rahul Gandhi ,led his party’s campaign from the front, and did so in adverse circumstances, with the organisation almost defunct and out of power in UP for the last 22 years. Like Akhilesh, he worked equally hard, addressing over 200 meetings, and with sincerity. And yet it was the Samajwadi Party that emerged as the flavour of the season.WHY ? There are some answers ...

For a start, Rahul did not represent the local face that people were obviously looking for, and things might have been different had he been projected as the chief ministerial candidate of his party.Akhilesh, armed with the boy-next-door charm, had drawn large crowds, made up largely of enthusiastic young people, who rushed to hear ‘bhaiyya’, ever since he started his cycle.Rahul called donors beggars ,whereas he was begging for votes .He lied all day claiming he studied abroad don't you had collage in India ? Even accused others for not committed of growth while his own party busy in scandals whereas Akhilesh was trying hard every time to connect with locals at there best through language ,caste and also as a bottom line party worker.

Rahul Gandhi could also have done without some loose cannons, who with their statements about Batla House, President’s rule (and this may have created an even greater surge for the SP in the last two phases with a large concentration of Muslims) or 9% reservation for the Muslims, which created a reaction among Hindus and helped the BJP in many seats. After citing the election results, it is clear that Akhilesh with his down to earth nature managed to win the hearts of the people in Uttar Pradesh while Rahul failed to spell his charisma. Rahul’s appeal and interaction is sophisticated. Akhilesh is more direct. Electioneering in UP to this son of a three-time CM has for years meant going from door to door on a bicycle, his party’s symbol. Akhilesh’s engagement with the people is direct, personal and earthy.
